Forest Walk

Memories of Peru come to mind as I am sitting in a hot and humid apartment, waiting for the air conditioner to find itself.

I went for a weekend tour in a forest. We had rooms that were open to the trees and the spiders.  It would periodically rain making the heat steam up from the mud.  There was a lot of mud.  High rubber boots and walking sticks were complimentary. Each of the walking sticks had a different carved head, maybe the head of a monkey or a bird or a lizard.

Even with this uncomfortable weather, I went on every available hike. These were led by rangers who had tremendous knowledge of the fauna and trained eyes for the wildlife. Even the night tours held much to behold.

They didn’t have air conditioning there. But my boots didn’t get stuck in the deep mud.
