Malappuram

India.  From travels in the State of Kerala in Southern India…

In Malappuram, there are temples carved from single huge stones. In one huge (100×50 foot) relief carved into a natural rock wall were intricate scenes of battle, triumph, torment, and redemption. In and amongst everything else going on, there was a cat feigning a transcended state of nirvana to trick mice into coming closer.

With five other tourists and a guide, I bicycled around these fantastic works of art. We bicycled in the blazing heat while the goats sat in the shade and looked at us like we were crazy.
