Amsterdam Itinerary

NETHERLANDS.  In April, I spent a short week in Amsterdam. The number of bicycles was ever a marvel. There is so much to do and see, I’m sure I would have kept busy with a second week. I share these notes should you find them helpful in planning your Amsterdam itinerary.

Logistics:  I stayed at the StayOkay Hostel Vondelpark, a wonderful location by a large park and public transport. I used an “I Amsterdam City” card for transportation and most museum tickets.

DAY ONE:  Tropenmuseum; Verzetsmuseum; (both are near the zoo)

DAY TWO: Rijksmuseum; Allard Pierson-Collection of University of Amsterdam

DAY THREE:   Stedelijk Museum; MOCCO Musuem;  Van Gogh Museum.

DAY FOUR:  GETYOURGUIDE.COM Day trip- Volendam, Marken & Windmills (This included not only windmills, but a cheese factory, a wooden shoe factory and a lovely stop at a waterfront downtown.)

DAY FIVE:  Vondelpark; Newekerk; Royal Palace; Beijijnhof; Museum van Loon.

DAY SIX:  GETYOURGUIDE.COM Day trip- Keukenhof Garden & Bulb Farm

And the food? I confess, I mostly gave in to the abundant Asian Cuisine, but I did have the local fish and chips, the BitterBallen (croquets served with a pot of mustard for dipping) and white asparagus dishes. Excellent cheese. Strong beer.
