Sharing the World

I was thinking about all the time in New England that I have spent waiting in a bind for a moose or a bear to show up.  In Sri Lanka, the wildlife showed up where I was least expecting it.

There was an elephant crossing the road;

the fruit bats hanging from the trees and the cause of all that noise;

the parakeets in a showdown;

the monitor lizard walking along the road;

and this one lounging amidst barriers set in the water due to nearby construction

and the monkeys at a public park, like all the people, enjoying the green grass.

At home, I rarely see more than squirrels and sparrows on a regular basis.  As we all share the same planet, it makes you think when wildlife encounters seem such a novelty.
