Siena valentine

In the pretty Tuscany region of Italy, are vineyards and Firenze and Lucca and Siena.

Siena is a city filled with gothic architecture. Past the tourist center, you can sense the unassuming streets have seen much.

I signed up my nephew and me for an afternoon walking tour. The guide arrived late so the three of us power walked about the different neighborhoods, covering all on the itinerary.

We ended the tour with a behind the scenes look in a gelato shop. There, we measured ingredients and operated electronic mixing machines to make a batch of gelato.

As we sat at our table in the front of the shop, we recounted the many sights as we savored our big scoops of gelato.

Sometimes a memory is a virtual Valentine.

Behind the scene at the gelato shop

“Siena retains a ward-centric culture from medieval times. Each ward (contrada) is represented by an animal or mascot, and has its own boundary and distinct identity. Ward rivalries are most rampant during the annual horse race (Palio) in the Piazza del Campo.”—Wikipedia
